Night in Bethlehem
Sunday, December 16th, 2007
Our ward held a “Night in Bethlehem” activity. They told us to dress in period attire, so I went to the Value Village and bought a few sheets and cut them up (no sewing involved). I was pretty proud of myself that we were all color-coordinated. Ethan put up a resistance at first on wearing the costume, but after bribing him with the battery-operated tea light, he relented. Gordon wanted to sleep in his costume. They were pretty cozy and warm.
We got a little coin purse with coins to buy our snacks and drinks from the market places, then sat on blankets in the gym. It was decorated so beautifully with all the walls covered with painted scenes and the ceiling draped with lights.
There were rooms set up for crafts and the bishopric, dressed up as the three kings, passed out toy jacob ladders to the kids. At the end of the night, each family got to take home a wooden manger that we are to fill with hay (raffia) each time someone does a good deed for someone else in the home. We had a great time.
